Every year during IPL season, many of us casually claim “I don’t watch IPL that much.” But let’s be honest when your favorite team is playing or it’s a big clash, chances are you’re glued to the screen. Even if you’re not watching live, you’re likely scrolling through highlights, checking match moments on Instagram Reels, or catching up with post-match discussions.
This raises an interesting question: how much time does an average IPL fan actually spend watching IPL in a day? To find out, I conducted a simple survey, asking IPL fans one straightforward question:
“How much time do you really watch IPL in a day?”
The Surprising Average: 1.5 Hours Daily
The results turned out to be both surprising and relatable. According to the responses, the average fan watches 1 hour and 30 minutes of IPL every day.
This figure suggests that while most people aren’t watching every ball of every match — which can run over four hours — they’re still committing a decent amount of time. Whether it’s watching a full innings, catching the powerplay, or following their favorite players’ performances, fans are clearly engaged.
Some respondents admitted to spending just 30 minutes a day, while others reported watching up to 4 hours. Interestingly, many split their time across different formats — a few overs live, then checking scores on apps, and later watching the highlights.
What Does 1.5 Hours a Day Really Mean?
When you multiply that by 30 days, it comes out to over 45 hours across the IPL season. To put that into perspective, 45 hours is roughly equivalent to:
-
Binge-watching an entire Netflix series
-
Completing a full-length video game campaign
-
Reading two complete books
And yet, to most fans, it doesn’t feel like a lot. That’s the subtle power of IPL, it’s not just about watching a match. It’s about being in the zone, living the excitement, and staying updated. Even if you’re not following every ball, you’re likely talking about it with friends, laughing at memes, checking the points table, or celebrating iconic moments on social media.
So, How Much Do You Watch?
Whether you’re a casual viewer or a die-hard fan, it’s worth reflecting:
-
Do you watch full matches?
-
Just your favorite team’s innings?
-
Or only tune in for powerplays and the final overs?
Whatever your answer is, you’re part of a cricket-loving community that continues to evolve with the game.
